Women's Mental Health
In this episode Grace encapsulates the myth shrouding women's mental health and societal perception as relates to this. Women's mental health is multifactorial which is determined by biological, psychological and socio-economic factors. Major life transitions can create physical and emotional stresses for women. Negative life experiences such as violence, infertility and perinatal loss, poverty, unemployment, discrimination and isolation. 53% of women who have mental health problems have also suffered from abuse. The link between sexual and physical violence, trauma and PTSD is obvious; because they re-experience phenomena numbing or avoidance of stimuli associated with the violent events and symptoms of increased arousal. The disorder may begin immediately after the trauma or onset may be delayed for months or even years. These traumatic events can lead to self-harm and suicide.
